Week 01 – Starting new habits

Week 01 is the beginning of the pre-acclimation phase. In this phase, the goal is to work up to fitness levels required in acclimation phase.

This includes:

a 1500-meter swim on Tuesday and Thursday,
a 3-mile run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday,
a 30 to 45-minute bike ride on Thursday and Saturday, and
cross training on Wednesday and Friday.

My first run was the early morning of Sept. 27. It was 42 degrees. 3-mile run at a 9:25 pace. At this point I had only been running about a mile, one or two days a week on my way to an F3 workout with neighbors. My legs felt a little tight.

That same day I flew to Los Angeles for work. The following evening, I did another 3-mile run with a friend. This time through Beverly Hills at a slower 10:05 pace. That run was not as fun. The neighborhoods were cool, but my body was not used to running again. I did the Thursday bike ride in the hotel gym. Then back at home for the weekend workouts, and a 20-mile bike ride on Sunday.
